మీ ప్రయాణం ఎలా సాగుతోంది?
‘చెక్’ సినిమా తర్వాత కోవిడ్ కారణంగా కాస్త విరామం వచ్చింది. కానీ 2022 ద్వితీయార్థం నుంచి జీవితంలో ఎప్పుడూ లేనంత సంతోషంగా ఉన్నాను. ఫలానా అబ్బాయి ఫలానా అమ్మాయి మార్చి 17న విడుదలవుతోంది. దాని తర్వాత ‘ఇంటింటి రామాయణం’, ‘విద్య వాసుల అహం’ రానున్నాయి. వీటితో పాటు మరో రెండు వెబ్ సిరీస్ లు చేస్తున్నాను. ప్రస్తుతం వర్క్ పరంగా సంతృప్తిగా ఉన్నాను. ఇటీవల విడుదలైన ‘కనుల చాటు మేఘమా’ పాటకు వస్తున్న స్పందన నాకెంతో సంతోషాన్ని ఇచ్చింది.
మీ కెరీర్ లో ‘కనుల చాటు మేఘమా’ ఉత్తమ పాట అని చాలా గొప్పగా చెప్పడానికి కారణం?
ప్రేమలు చాలా రకాలుగా ఉంటాయి. ఇది మోహం లేని మధురమైన ప్రేమ. ఇటువంటి సందర్భంలో వచ్చిన ప్రేమ పాటను నేను ఇప్పటివరకు చేయలేదు. శ్రీనివాస్ గారి అభిరుచికి తగ్గట్లుగా స్వరపరచడం జరిగింది. కేవలం ట్యూన్ మాత్రమే కాదు.. లక్ష్మీభూపాల్ గారు రాసిన లిరిక్స్, ఆభాస్ జోషి గాత్రం ఎంతో నచ్చాయి. ఈ పాట హిట్ అవ్వడంలో వాళ్ళ ప్రమేయం చాలా ఉంది. రూపుదిద్దుకుంటున్నప్పుడే ఈ పాట హిట్ అవుతుందని నాకు తెలుసు. అందుకే ముందు నుంచే ఆ పాట పట్ల ప్రేమ పెంచుకుంటూ వచ్చాను. దానికి తగ్గట్టుగానే విడుదలవ్వగానే అందరికీ నచ్చడం సంతోషాన్నిచ్చింది.
‘ఏం సందేహం లేదు’ లాంటి గొప్ప పాటలు ఇచ్చిన మీకు రావాల్సినంత పేరు రాలేదనే అభిప్రాయం ఉంది. ఏమంటారు?
ఇది సమాధానం చెప్పలేని ప్రశ్న. హిట్ అయితే అవకాశాలు వస్తాయన్న అభిప్రాయంతో అందరూ హిట్ కోసం ఎదురుచూస్తుంటారు. కానీ నా విషయంలో మాత్రం దానికి విరుద్ధంగా జరుగుతుంది. ఏ హిట్ వచ్చినా ఆ తర్వాత దానికి తగ్గ అవకాశం రాలేదు. ఆంధ్రుడు, ఐతే, అలా మొదలైంది, అష్టాచమ్మా ఇలా ఏ సినిమా తీసుకున్నా నేను ఊహించినవిధంగా కెరీర్ లేదు. అయితే దానికి కారణమేంటి అని ఆలోచించడం కన్నా.. ఇంకా బాగా కష్టపడాలి అనే దృష్టితో పని చేసుకుంటూ వెళ్తున్నాను. నాకు వచ్చిన అవకాశాన్ని సద్వినియోగం చేసుకున్నానా లేదా అనే ఆలోచన మాత్రమే నాకు ఉంటుంది. నా పని పట్ల నేను చాలా సంతృప్తిగా ఉన్నాను. 2003 లో నా మొదటి సినిమా ఐతే విడుదలైంది. ఈ 20 ఏళ్లలో ఇది నా 19వ సినిమా. సంవత్సరానికి ఒక సినిమా చేస్తున్నాను. ఈ ప్రయాణంలో నా సంగీతం పట్ల ఎన్నో ప్రశంసలు దక్కాయి. ఆ విషయంలో ఆనందంగా ఉన్నాను.
మీ సంగీతం లేకుండా శ్రీనివాస్ అవసరాల గారి సినిమా ఉండదేమో?
అలా అని ఏం లేదండీ. నిజానికి ఈ సినిమాకి ముందుగా వివేక్ సాగర్ సంగీత దర్శకుడు. ఐదు పాటల్లో ఆయనొక పాట స్వరపరిచారు. ఈ సినిమా 2019 లోనే మొదలైంది కానీ కోవిడ్ కారణంగా దాదాపు రెండేళ్లు గ్యాప్ వచ్చింది. ఆ తరువాత వివేక్ గారు, శ్రీనివాస్ గారు అడగడంతో నేను ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ లోకి వచ్చాను. వివేక్ సాగర్ స్వరపరిచిన పాట అప్పటికే షూటింగ్ అయిపోవడంతో.. మిగతా నాలుగు పాటలు, నేపథ్యం సంగీతం నేను అందించాను. హిట్ కాంబినేషన్ కాబట్టి వరుసగా సినిమాలు చేయాలని ఏంలేదు.. పరిస్థితులను బట్టి కొన్నిసార్లు కుదురుతుంది, కొన్నిసార్లు కుదరదు.
కమర్షియల్ సినిమాలు ఎక్కువ చేయకపోవడానికి కారణం?
అవకాశమొస్తే ఖచ్చితంగా చేస్తాను. అధినాయకుడు, బాస్ సినిమాలు చేశాను కానీ అవి ఆశించినస్థాయిలో ఆడలేదు. అవి సూపర్ హిట్ అయ్యుంటే వరుస అవకాశాలు వచ్చేవి అనుకుంటున్నాను. అవి ఫెయిల్యూర్ అవ్వడం వల్ల నెగటివ్ సెంటిమెంట్ తో కొందరు భయపడి ఉండొచ్చు.
సంగీతం విషయంలో దర్శకుడి పాత్ర ఎంత ఉంటుంది?
అధిక భాగం దర్శకులదే పాత్ర ఉంటుంది. దర్శకుడి అభిరుచిని బట్టే సినిమా, సంగీతం ఉంటాయి. మనం చేసే పనిలో మన స్వభావం కనిపిస్తుంది. నా సంగీతం బాగుందంటే అందులో చాలావరకు నా దర్శకులకే క్రెడిట్ ఇస్తాను.
మీ సోదరుడు కీరవాణి గారు స్వరపరిచిన ‘నాటు నాటు’ పాట ఆస్కార్ బరిలో నిలవడం ఎలా ఉంది?
అన్నయ్య స్వరపరిచిన పాట ఆస్కార్ బరిలో నిలవడం చాలా గర్వంగా ఉంది. రాజమౌళికి తన సినిమా మీద, ఆ పాట మీద ఉన్న నమ్మకమే ఇక్కడి వరకు తీసుకెళ్లింది. ఆస్కార్ వస్తుందా రాదా అనేది పక్కన పెడితే అసలు నామినేషన్స్ వరకు వెళ్లడం చాలా సంతోషాన్ని కలిగించింది.
ఈ సినిమాకి మీకు అవార్డు వస్తుంది అనుకుంటున్నారా?
నా సంగీతం, నా పాటలు బాగున్నాయి అని ప్రశంసలు దక్కాయి. నేను స్వరపరిచిన పాటలు పాడిన వారికి అవార్డులు వచ్చాయి. కానీ ఎందుకనో నాకు అవార్డులు రాలేదు. ఈ సినిమాకి లిరిక్ రైటర్ గా లక్ష్మీభూపాల్ గారు, సింగర్ గా ఆభాస్ జోషి అవార్డులు అందుకుంటారనే నమ్మకం ఉంది. అయితే అవార్డులు కంటే కూడా నా పాట బాగుందనే పేరే నాకు ఎక్కువ సంతృప్తిని ఇస్తుంది.
భవిష్యత్తులో రాజమౌళి గారి సినిమాల్లో కీరవాణి గారి స్థానాన్ని మీరు భర్తీ చేసే అవకాశముందా?
అసలు దాని గురించి ఆలోచించలేదు అండీ. రాజమౌళి-కీరవాణి, సుకుమార్-దేవిశ్రీప్రసాద్ కాంబినేషన్ లు నాకు చాలా ఇష్టం. ఆ కాంబినేషన్ లు అలా ఉంటేనే బాగుంటాయి. రాజమౌళి సినిమాలకు అన్నయ్య అద్భుతమైన సంగీతాన్ని అందిస్తున్నప్పుడు.. ఆ స్థానాన్ని ఎవరు భారీ చేస్తారని ఆలోచించడం అనవసరం. అలాగే సుకుమార్ గారంటే నాకు చాలా ఇష్టం. సుకుమార్ రైటింగ్స్ లో ఆయన నిర్మించే సినిమాకి నేను సంగీతం అందించాలని కోరుకుంటాను కానీ ఆయన దర్శకత్వం వహించే సినిమాకి సంగీతం అందించాలని కోరుకోను. రాజమౌళి-కీరవాణి, సుకుమార్-దేవిశ్రీప్రసాద్ ఆ కాంబినేషన్ లు అలా ఉంటేనే బాగుంటుందనేది నా అభిప్రాయం.

Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi (PAPA) is Srinivas Avasarala’s film with his trademark comedy, emotion, and classical touches. The cute pairing of Naga Shaurya and Malavika Nair, and their sparkling chemistry shall be the highlight of the film. The movie is produced by People Media Factory in collaboration with Dasari Productions.
With Naga Shaurya, Malvika Nair in the lead roles, director Srinivas Avasarala carved it to perfection. The music is composed by Kalyani Malik and the songs are instant hits with the audience. PAPA is gearing up for its release on March 17, 2023, and is garnering applause from all corners as a new-age love story with romance, comedy, soulful music and witty dialogue.
Here are the excerpts from Kalyani Malik’s interaction with the media.
On the journey so far
I had my share of hits and misses in life. After the unsuccessful ‘Check’, due to various reasons including the impact of Covid-19, I had a gap in my work. However, since then I have been able to work on several projects including Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi, Initinti Ramayanam, Vidyavaasulam, and two web series. Through these projects, I have discovered that there is more to life for me in terms of work. In particular, the song, Kanula Chaatu Meghama, has given me a new lease on life.
On going overboard and praising ‘Kanula Chatu Meghama’
There are different types of love songs, as love itself can take on many flavours. One particular type of love is pure and lustless, and when a filmmaker like Srinivas Avasarala creates a song scenario, the song is bound to turn great. This is one such song that became an instant hit before the release of the film, like my previous song ‘Aithe’.
On not tasting success even after creating memorable songs
I’m sorry, but I cannot answer that question. I feel I am not affected by criticism. While my life and career haven’t always gone according to plan, I have chosen to focus on my work and strive to give my best to the world of music. For me, it’s all about customer satisfaction and making sure my directors are happy with my work. My ultimate goal is to create music that brings peace to those who hear it. As of April 2023, I will have completed 20 years in the music industry, having worked on an average of one film per year. It has been a journey full of ups and downs, but even in the case of films that didn’t do well, I received much appreciation for my music. For that reason, I want to express my gratitude to the media.
On lobbying for work in the movie industry
I cannot comment on the topic of lobbying, but as a composer, it does not make me happy. In the early stages of my career, I was quite aggressive and approached many producers for work, but unfortunately, things did not materialise. However, I do not wish to portray others in a negative light, as that is not the way I work.
On working with Srinivas Avasarala
It was already a great experience working with Avasarala. I was not the original choice for PAPA. One song was composed by Vivek Sagar. The shoot was also done in London. For other songs, I did the score. I was approached by Vivek and Srinivas Avasarala to take up the project and I became lucky.
Classic vs Commercial genre of music
Although I did work on some commercial films, they did not perform well at the box office, which prevented me from establishing myself in that particular zone. Had films like ‘Boss’ or ‘Adhinayakudu’ succeeded, my career trajectory would have been different. Unfortunately, ‘Check’ did not live up to expectations, despite my speaking highly of the film, so I have since become more economical with my words.
On the role of a director in creating impactful music
99% of the credit for a project goes to the director’s vision. As artists, people can infer our personalities based on the type of work we produce. That’s true with any body of work. I am eagerly anticipating a potential national award for a song I composed in the film PAPA.
On ‘Naatu Naatu’ getting a global recognition
I am proud to have been a part of the family of M M Keeravani. Naatu Naatu has achieved such international recognition and is now in the running for an Oscar. Amazingly, an Indian song has received such a broad audience. I must commend S S Rajamouli for his incredible vision and for bringing this recognition to our industry.
On the journey as a singer
I don’t feel no one asks for my voice or asks me to sing. For Em Sandeham, Sunitha got an award but I didn’t get it. That had me disappointed. I am unhappy that I didn’t get awards. But as I said, the show must go on and I moved on with life and work.
On being active on Twitter
I am happy with the appreciation I receive on Twitter for my posts on food and music. Sometimes, I even share some good songs by other composers. To avoid any trolling, I have had to switch between different accounts and even change my username many times.
On core strengths in music
It’s difficult for me to comment on any one particular song, as I put the same amount of effort and dedication into every project. Ultimately, it’s the success of the music and the film that brings me the most satisfaction. A good story can inspire experimentation in music and showcase a director’s sensibilities. Music can be thought of as a perfume that adds a distinct flavour to a film.
On anticipating a chance to work with S S Rajamouli in the future
MM Keeravani is set to work with S.S. Rajamouli, so there is no need for a replacement. The same can be said for Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad, as they are a perfect match. I never thought about working with S.S. Rajamouli myself.

శ్రీనివాస్ అవసరాల దర్శకత్వం వహించిన మొదటి రెండు సినిమాలు ‘ఊహలు గుసగుసలాడే’, ‘జ్యో అచ్యుతానంద’కు సంగీతం అందించిన కళ్యాణి మాలిక్ ముచ్చటగా మూడో చిత్రానికి కూడా సంగీతం అందిస్తున్నారు. అప్పట్లో వంశీ-ఇళయరాజా కాంబినేషన్ కి ఎంతటి క్రేజ్ ఉందో.. ఇప్పుడు కేవలం రెండు చిత్రాలతోనే శ్రీనివాస్ అవసరాల-కళ్యాణి మాలిక్ కాంబినేషన్ కూడా అలాంటి ప్రత్యేక క్రేజ్ ను సొంతం చేసుకోవడం విశేషం. వీరి కలయికలో వచ్చిన సినిమాల్లోని మెలోడీలు ఎంతో ఆహ్లాదకరంగా, ఓ కొత్త లోకంలో విహరింపజేసే అంత హాయిగా ఉంటాయి. ఇటీవల ‘ఫలానా అబ్బాయి ఫలానా అమ్మాయి’ నుంచి విడుదలైన మొదటి పాట ‘కనుల చాటు మేఘమా’ కూడా శ్రోతలను కట్టిపడేసింది. ఇక ఈ సోమవారం సాయంత్రం రెండో పాటగా విడుదలైన ఫలానా అబ్బాయి ఫలానా అమ్మాయి టైటిల్ సాంగ్ కూడా అదే స్థాయిలో మెప్పిస్తోంది.

నాయకా, నాయికల మధ్య పరిచయం ఎలా ఏర్పడింది? వారి ప్రయాణం సాగింది? అనే విషయాలను తెలుపుతూ సాగే పాట ఇది. లిరికల్ వీడియోలో నాయకా నాయికల కెమిస్ట్రీ ప్రత్యేక ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచింది. వారి పాత్రల తీరు, వారి పరిచయం కాస్త భిన్నం అని తెలిపేలా.. వీడియో ప్రారంభంలో ఓ వైపు నాయకా నాయికలు వర్షంలో తడుస్తూ ఉండటం, మరోవైపు ఆకాశంలో సూర్యుడు కనిపించడం ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉంది. మొదటి నుండి చివరి వరకు వారి ప్రయాణం ఎంతో అందంగా ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగిందని అర్థమవుతోంది. “ఫలానా అబ్బాయ్ ఫలానా అమ్మాయ్.. ఫలానా అబ్బాయ్ ఫలానా అమ్మాయ్.. ఇవాళే కలిశారు తొలిసారిగా..” అంటూ సాగే ఈ పాట మొదటిసారి వినగానే పాడాలి అనిపించేలా ఎంతో అందంగా, అర్థవంతంగా ఉంది. అందమైన మెలోడీలను స్వరపరచడంలో దిట్ట అయిన కళ్యాణి మాలిక్ మరోసారి తన మ్యూజిక్ తో మ్యాజిక్ చేశారు. ఆయన స్వరపరిచిన సంగీతం అందెల సవ్వడిలా, సెలయేటి నడకలా ఎంతో ఆహ్లాదకరంగా ఉంది. ఈ పాటలో తన సంగీతంతో మాత్రమే కాదు, తన స్వరంతోనూ కట్టిపడేసారు కళ్యాణి మాలిక్. గాయని నూతన మోహన్ తో కలిసి ఆయన ఈ పాటను ఎంతో అందంగా ఆలపించారు. ప్రముఖ గీత రచయిత భాస్కరభట్ల రవికుమార్ ఈ పాటకు అద్భుతమైన సాహిత్యాన్ని అందించారు. ‘ఫలానా అబ్బాయి ఫలానా అమ్మాయి’ అనే టైటిల్ కి తగ్గట్లుగానే సహజత్వం ఉట్టిపడేలా తేలికైన పదాలతో లోతైన భావాన్ని పలికించేలా ఆయన పాట రాసిన తీరు ఆకట్టుకుంది. “కనులకీ కనులు కవిత రాసెనుగ.. మనసుతో మనసు కలుపుకోగా.. ఒకరినీ ఒకరు చదువుతూ మురిసిపోయారు గమ్మత్తుగా” అంటూ తన పదాల అల్లికతో మెప్పించారు భాస్కరభట్ల.

Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’s second single, a peppy title track, launched

*Bhaskarabhatla’s relatable lyrics and the lively rendition of Kalyani Malik and Nutana Mohan instantly resonate with a music buff

Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi is a feel-good romance, starring Naga Shaurya and Malvika Nair, directed by Srinivas Avasarala and produced by People Media Factory in collaboration with Dasari Productions. Kalyani Malik scored the music for the film. After an overwhelming response to the first single Kanula Chatu Meghama, which grossed over a million views on Youtube, the makers unveiled the second single from the film, the title track, on Monday.

The composer Kalyani Malik himself and popular singer Nutana Mohan have crooned for the title track lyricised by Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar. The upbeat melody elaborates on a typical ‘boy-meets-girl’ scenario, describing the various emotions that a boy and a girl go through, as they meet for the first time. From the excitement to surprises to inhibitions, the song beautifully expresses the little nothings between a couple in a blossoming relationship.

Perhaps it is these lines – ‘Kanulaki Kanulu Kavitha Rasenuga…Manasutho Manasu Kalupukoga..Okaraniki Okaru Chaduvuthu Murisipoyaru gammathugaa..’ – that sum up the spirit of the song, expressing how the protagonists are gradually falling in love after their first meeting. The alluring, vibrant orchestration is matched by the enthusiastic, charming renditions of Kalyani Malik and Nutana Mohan.

“This is more of an introduction song for the protagonists. Who’re they? When do they meet each other? How does their equation change with time? What’s the bond they share? Where is their relationship headed? I’ve tried to encapsulate Srinivas Avasarala’s thoughts in a song form. I’m very happy to have written this song and it’s great to collaborate with Avasarala (garu) after Jyo Achyutananda. I’ve written three songs in the film and it’s my privilege to have been associated with a renowned banner,” lyricist Bhaskarabhatla shared.

Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’s teaser too opened to fantastic feedback from critics and film buffs alike. The film is gearing up for a release on March 17. The romance also stars Srinivas Avasarala, Megha Chowdhury, Ashok Kumar, Abhishek Maharshi, Sri Vidya, Varanasi Soumya Chalamcharla, Harini Rao, Arjun Prasad, and others.

*Makers unveil an action-packed poster from the film to confirm the release date
After delivering two blockbusters Lakshyam and Loukyam, Macho star Gopichand and director Sriwass are reuniting for another action entertainer, their hattrick project titled Rama Banam. Dimple Hayati plays the female lead in the film produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Vivek Kuchibhotla under People Media Factory. As the film production nears completion, the makers announced the film’s release date today.
Rama Banam will hit theatres worldwide on May 5. In an intense, action-packed poster featuring Gopichand in a stylish avatar, the makers wished the best for students writing their exams and said they could celebrate together with the film’s release in summer. The first glimpse of Gopichand as Vicky in Rama Banam opened to a terrific response from crowds and critics alike, recently.
Both Sriwass and Gopichand are confident about rediscovering themselves with the film and offering a unique viewing experience for audiences with all the commercial ingredients in the right measure. Mickey J Meyer’s music promises to be an added attraction for the film.
The producers, People Media Factory, are on a roll already with two hits in 2022 like Dhamaka and Karthikeya 2 and they’re backing some of the biggest releases this year apart from Ramabanam. They are going all out to ensure a lavish, stylish product with top-notch technicians and crew. Bhupathi Raja is the story writer while Vetri Palani Swamy is the cinematographer. సినిమాకి ఈ టైటిల్ పెట్టడానికి కారణమేంటి?
ఇది చాలా సహజంగా ఉండే సినిమా. పాత్రలు, సంభాషణలు సహజంగా ఉంటాయి. నిజంగా ఇద్దరు మనుషులు మాట్లాడుకుంటుంటే ఎలా ఉంటుందో అంత సహజంగా ఉండాలని తీసిన సినిమా ఇది. ఈ కథ కూడా నిజ జీవితంలో నేను చూసిన కొన్ని సంఘటనల ఆధారంగా రాసుకున్నాను. ఇది జనాలకు దగ్గరగా ఉండే కథ. మనకు తెలిసిన కథలా, మనలో ఒకరి కథలా ఉంటుంది. అంత సహజమైన సినిమాకి ‘ఫలానా అబ్బాయి ఫలానా అమ్మాయి’ లాంటి టైటిల్ పెడితే బాగుంటుంది అనిపించింది. మొదట దీనిని వర్కింగ్ అనుకుంటున్నాను అని చెప్పాను. అయితే ఈ టైటిల్ నిర్మాతలకు ఎంతగానో నచ్చి వెంటనే రిజిస్టర్ చేయించారు.
ఈ సినిమాలో కొత్తగా ఏమైనా చూపించబోతున్నారా?
కొత్తగా ఏముంది అనేది మీకు సినిమా చూసిన తరువాత అర్థమవుతుంది. నాది-నాగ శౌర్య కాంబినేషన్ లో సినిమా అనగానే అందరూ ‘ఊహలు గుసగుసలాడే’ తరహాలో రొమాంటిక్ కామెడీ ఫిల్మ్ అయ్యుంటుంది అనుకుంటున్నారు. అయితే ఈ సినిమా స్క్రిప్టెడ్ లాగా అనిపించదు. నిజ జీవితంలో పాత్రలు ఎలా ప్రవర్తిస్తాయి, ఎలా మాట్లాడుతారో అలాగే ఈ సినిమా ఉంటుంది. ట్రైలర్ చూశాక ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉండబోతుందో మీకో అవగాహన వస్తుంది. ప్రతి సినిమాకి ఓ శైలి ఉంటుంది. నా గత చిత్రాలకు భిన్నంగా ఈ సినిమా ఉంటుంది.
మీరు నెమ్మదిగా సినిమాలు తీయడానికి కారణం?
నేను కథ రాయడానికి ఏడాది, ఏడాదిన్నర సమయం తీసుకుంటాను. ఈ సినిమా 2019లో మొదలుపెట్టాను. 2020 లో యూకే, యూఎస్ లో షూట్ చేయడానికి సన్నాహాలు చేస్తుండగా కోవిడ్ కారణంగా వీసాలు ఇవ్వడం ఆపేశారు. ఆ తరువాత 2022 లో యూకే వెళ్లి షూటింగ్ పూర్తి చేశాం. అప్పుడు కూడా 40 మందికి వీసాలు అప్లై చేస్తే పదిమందికే ఇచ్చారు.
సంగీత దర్శకుడు కళ్యాణ్ మాలిక్ గారితో ప్రయాణం?
కళ్యాణ్ మాలిక్ గారు అష్టాచమ్మా సినిమా సమయం నుంచే తెలుసు. మా ఇద్దరికీ మంచి అనుబంధం ఉంది. మా ఆలోచనలు, అభిప్రాయాలు ఎలా ఉంటాయో ఒకరికొకరికి తెలుసు. ‘ఊహలు గుసగుసలాడే’, ‘జ్యో అచ్యుతానంద’ సినిమాలు సంగీత దర్శకుడిగా ఆయనకు మంచి పేరు తీసుకురావడంతో నేనంటే కొంచెం ఎక్కువ ప్రేమ ఆయనకు. ఆ అనుబంధం వల్లే సినిమా సినిమాకి ఇంకా మంచి అవుట్ పుట్ వస్తుంది. ‘కనుల చాటు మేఘమా’ పాటను కీరవాణి గారి లాంటి దిగ్గజం సహా అందరూ ప్రశంసించడంతో కళ్యాణ్ మాలిక్ గారు ఎంతో ఆనందంగా ఉన్నారు.
వరుసగా నాగశౌర్యతోనే సినిమాలు చేయడానికి కారణం?
నాగశౌర్య నాకు చాలా ఇష్టమైన నటుడు. యూకేలో షూటింగ్ కి పదిమందితోనే వెళ్లడంతో అక్కడ మేం కొన్ని ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొన్నాం. అయితే నాగశౌర్య తన నటనతో ఆ ఇబ్బందులను మర్చిపోయేలా చేసేవాడు. ప్రతిరోజూ అవుట్ పుట్ చూసుకొని సంతృప్తి కలిగేది. ఇది ముఖ్యంగా నటన మీద ఆధారపడిన సినిమా. నాగశౌర్య ఎంత బాగా నటించాడనేది మీకు సినిమా చూశాక తెలుస్తుంది. అయితే నేను కథ రాసుకునేటప్పుడు ఫలానా నటుడిని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొని రాయను. కథ రాసుకున్నాక దానికి తగ్గ నటీనటులను, సాంకేతిక నిపుణులను ఎంచుకుంటాను.
ఈ సినిమా గురించి ఇప్పటికే నాగశౌర్య చాలా గొప్పగా చెప్పారు.. ఎలా ఉండబోతోంది సినిమా?
ఈ సినిమాలో ఏడు చాప్టర్లు ఉంటాయి. ఒక్కో చాప్టర్ నిడివి సుమారుగా 20 నిమిషాలు ఉంటుంది. ఈ ఏడు చాప్టర్లు పదేళ్ల వ్యవధిలో జరుగుతాయి. ఈ పదేళ్లలో 18 నుంచి 28 ఏళ్ళ వరకు నాగశౌర్య, మాళవిక పాత్రల ప్రయాణం ఉంటుంది. వయసుకి తగ్గట్లుగా పాత్ర తాలూకు ప్రవర్తన, ఆహార్యంలో వ్యత్యాసం చూపించడానికి నాగశౌర్య ఎంతో కష్టపడ్డాడు. ఈ సినిమా పట్ల శౌర్య చాలా నమ్మకంగా ఉన్నాడు.
తెలుగు సినిమాకి ఈ తరహా చిత్రాన్ని తీసుకురావడం ఎలా ఉంది?
‘బిఫోర్‌ సన్‌రైజ్‌’ అనే ఇంగ్లీష్ సినిమా నాకు చాలా ఇష్టమైన సినిమా. ఈ తరహా సినిమా తెలుగులో చేయాలి అనిపించింది. ఇలాంటి సినిమాలకు డైలాగ్స్ స్క్రిప్టెడ్ ఉంటే సహజత్వం పోతుంది. నటీనటులు సహజంగా మాట్లాడున్నట్లు ఉండాలి. దర్శకుడిగా నా బలం నటీనటుల నుంచి సహజ నటన రాబట్టుకోవడం. నేను ఫ్రేమ్ లో మొదట నటీనటులు అభినయం ఎలా ఉంది అనేదే చూస్తాను. ఆ నమ్మకంతోనే ఈ సినిమా చేశాను. మా నిర్మాతలు నన్ను, నా కథని, ఈ ప్రయోగాన్ని నమ్మారు.
టీజర్ లో ఉన్న ముద్దు సన్నివేశం గురించి మాళవిక గారికి ముందే చెప్పారా?
నేను కథ చెప్పినప్పుడే ఉన్న సన్నివేశాలన్నీ చెప్పాను. కథ విన్నాక ఆమె ఎమోషనల్ గా స్పందించారు. ఆమె కథకి అంతలా కనెక్ట్ అవ్వడంతో.. ఈ సినిమాలో కూడా అంత ఎమోషన్ తీసుకురాగలదనే నమ్మకం కలిగింది. ప్రతి సన్నివేశం ఆమెకు ముందుగానే చెప్పాను. ఆ సన్నివేశానికి సరైన కారణాలు ఉంటే, కథకి ఖచ్చితంగా అవసరం అనిపిస్తే నటీనటులు చేయడానికి
సిద్ధపడతారు అనేది నా అభిప్రాయం.
ఈ పదేళ్లలో నటుడిగా నాగశౌర్యలో గమనించిన మార్పులు ఏంటి?
నటుడిగా నాగశౌర్యలో చాలా తపన ఉంది. సినిమా సినిమాకి ఎంతో మెరుగుపడుతున్నాడు. ‘ఊహలు గుసగుసలాడే’, ‘జ్యో అచ్యుతానంద’ సమయంలో నటుడిగా నిరూపించుకోవాలనే తపన ఎంతో ఉందో ఇప్పటికీ అలాగే ఉంది. ఇంకా చెప్పాలంటే సినిమా సినిమాకి డెడికేషన్ పెరుగుతూ వస్తుంది. అలా అని నా తదుపరి సినిమా కూడా నాగశౌర్యతోనే చేస్తానని చెప్పలేను. ఎందుకంటే ముందుగా కథ రాసుకొని, ఆ తరువాత కథకు సరిపోయే నటీనటులను ఎంచుకుంటాను.
బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర, అవతార్-2 సినిమాలకు తెలుగులో మాటలు రాసే అవకాశం ఎలా వచ్చింది?
ఒకసారి టీమ్ ఫోన్ చేసి బ్రహ్మాస్త్రకు రాస్తారా అని అడిగారు. అప్పటికే ఆ సినిమా గురించి నాకు తెలుసు. నాగార్జున గారు కూడా నటిస్తున్నారని తెలుసు. పెద్ద సినిమా, ఎక్కువమంది చేరువయ్యే సినిమా కావడంతో వెంటనే రాయడానికి అంగీకరించాను. ఆ సినిమా చూసి నాకు అవతార్-2 అవకాశం ఇచ్చారు. హిందీ సినిమాలతో పోల్చితే ఇంగ్లీష్ సినిమాలకు తెలుగు సంభాషణలు రాయడం కొంచెం కష్టం. దానిని ఛాలెంజింగ్ గా తీసుకుని అవతార్-2 కి రాశాను.
తదుపరి సినిమాలు?
ప్రస్తుతం ఒక కథ అనుకుంటున్నాను. ఇంకా నేరేట్ చేసేదాకా రాలేదు. కథ పూర్తయ్యాక నటీనటుల ఎంపిక జరుగుతుంది. నానితో మంచి అనుబంధముంది. ఆయనతో సినిమా చేయాలని ఉంది. కానీ దానికి సమయముంది. నటుడిగా కన్యాశుల్కం అనే వెబ్ సిరీస్ చేశాను. త్వరలోనే విడుదల కానుంది. నటుడిగా తృప్తినిచ్ఛే పాత్రలు మాత్రమే చేస్తూ ఎక్కువగా రచన, దర్శకత్వం మీద దృష్టి పెట్టాలి అనుకుంటున్నాను.
 
‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi is a feel-good, conversational romance: Director Srinivas Avasarala 
‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi, starring Naga Shaurya, Malvika Nair, produced by People Media Factory and Dasari Productions, will hit theatres on March 17. The actor-turned-director Srinivas Avasarala said it took one and a half years to write the script alone.
Realism in the film
‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’ is a realistic film. I didn’t want characters to mouth routine cliche dialogues or go with a proper script. I used to watch independent films a lot. The characters in those films are so realistic as if someone takes a camera and starts shooting while two characters speak to each other. It looks so realistic. So I genuinely felt that I should attempt such films.
Coming to our story ‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’, I was inspired by real-life characters and incidents in my life. It’s a simplistic and a common story that is closer to people. It’s not a distant story happened somewhere far off, no!. So when I thought what can be the title, this phrase struck me, Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi.
Usually, films are based on real stories as filmmakers usually claim. What’s new about ‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’?
You’ve to watch only on the screen to find out what’s new in this film (laughs). If Avasarala Srinivas and Naga Shaurya have joined hands, everyone might think that, oh this film is going to be like ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’ or it could be any romantic comedy. But ‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’ doesn’t look like a film that is scripted. Imagine how actors really look when they talk to each other on screen. Rather than banking on dialogues, comedy or punchlines, it’s a realistic attempt to explore human behaviour on the screen.
Thinking away from the commercial meters, you have this flair for writing scripts with ease. Don’t you think it is quite a challenge to even write scripts casually?
Every film has its own vibe. During the time of ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’, I noticed some kind of joy flowing within me when I was writing the script. I felt as if I was creating a new world. While writing ‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’, I felt I was exploring real people. I usually take one and half year’s time to write a story. Each film decides its own style. I don’t write scripts deciding that this film is going to have commercial elements or it would be an art film. It’s incorrect to make a film keeping commercial elements in view. Even if we do so, there will be a disconnect somewhere in the middle. So we get derived output only if there is a perfect resonance between the story and the style that you intended to showcase.
Every film is different. If we think that we can easily make the next movie based on the previous movie which is a hit, we will go wrong. The story stinks. When we write a story, we can easily make out the style of the film. If you are successful in explaining the style to the crew and cast, you will probably taste success.
What’s the reason behind such a long gap between one film to another?
This current film took one and a half years. Even after ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’ in 2014, I started writing ‘Jyo Achyutananda’ in 2016. So I take one year for scripting alone. I started this film ‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’ in 2019. We were shooting in the UK and the USA. We had to face struggles due to Covid. Not all were granted a visa. There were travel restrictions. Even for shooting overseas, some restrictions were clamped so we had a tough time managing all these things. So it took time to complete the shoot.
On Kanula Chatu Meghama, the first single and Kalyan Malik
I’ve known Kalyan Malik since the days of ‘Ashta Chamma’. But I started creative interaction with him only during ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’. I know his taste and sense of humour. So communication between us grew bigger because of the familiarity. He did amazingly well in ‘Jyo Achyutananda’ and ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’. That’s how we collaborated to get good output again.
Usually, a director expands his market with each and every film. But when it comes to your career, you don’t seem to bother with such calculations, why so?
The story is what decides me. If any massive story strikes your mind, you would usually try to mount it. Then you carefully look into the cast. Who could be the best possible actor that fits into your story? But honestly, I don’t write stories keeping specific heroes in mind. The scale doesn’t mean budget alone. What longevity does a film have? To what extent it reached the audience over time is what matters to me.
On working with Naga Shaurya
This film has seven chapters. Each chapter’s length is 20 minutes. And these seven chapters take place in the span of 10 years. Both Shaurya and Malvika Nair are seen in different time spans and ages. Shaurya had to work really hard to bring the look of a teenager and again he had to display the look of a 28-year-young man. So we shot the film beautifully and Shaurya has this special feeling that it’s going to be a hit.
How much of your experience played the role in making the film? What’s the process in bringing this kind of process where dialogues are minimal?
I like the timings and vibes of sunset and sunrise, I always wanted to incorporate them into my films. I also know that it doesn’t really work if we come with dramatic writing and tell people that this is sunrise, no! Too many dialogues don’t really work in this sort of set-up. We need to collaborate with actors to get the natural flow. Also, I don’t know if I am saying this correctly or not. My strength is directing my actors.
Earning a nod from Malvika Nair
When I narrated the story, I explained the entire plot with all the scenes to her. When she heard the story, Malvika reacted very emotionally to the story. There was a personal connection that I noticed in her face. So the lip-lock scene existed at the script level. It’s not that I told her about this particular scene when she came to the set. When the gap came due to Covid, again I had to remind her about the particular scene in the film. I think, if actors know the reason behind such scenes, and what could be the circumstances that drove it, they will definitely get convinced and go the extra mile.
On the film’s genre
It is a love story. It’s a boy-meets-girl story and how they take their relationship is what forms the plot. Luckily the gap worked out well for the film. It has seven chapters, all should have good variations. Had I done one chapter after the other, the desired look would probably have been missed. So the Covid gap inevitably brought what I wanted. The film doesn’t have any turning points. It only depicts an emotional love story.
On future projects
I have a story ready with me though it has not reached the narration stage yet. I haven’t finalised the actors. I and Nani plan to work on a film soon, both are keen to work with one another from a long time. I am also working on web show Kanyasulkam. with Anjali, Naresh, Murali Sharma and Varsha Bollamma. It’ll come to OTTs next month.

Vaathi/ Sir Team honours and celebrates real-life Sir/ Vaathi K. Rangaiah

రియల్ బాల ‘సార్’ (కె. రంగయ్య) ని కలిసిన దర్శకుడు వెంకీ అట్లూరి
*రంగయ్య గారు కు సత్కారం, సహకారం అందించిన చిత్ర బృందంకొన్ని కథలు సమాజాన్ని ప్రతిబింబించేలా ఉంటాయి. కదిలిస్తాయి, ఆలోచింపజేస్తాయి, మార్పు దిశగా అడుగులు వేసేలా చేస్తాయి. అలాంటి అరుదైన ఆలోచింపజేసే కథతో రూపొందిన సందేశాత్మక చిత్రమే ‘సార్’. శివరాత్రి కానుకగా ఫిబ్రవరి 17న విడుదలైన ఈ చిత్రం అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులను అలరిస్తూ 100 కోట్ల దిశగా పయనిస్తోంది. ఇది గురువు గొప్పతనాన్ని తెలియజేసిన చిత్రం. పేద విద్యార్థుల చదువు కోసం బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ అనే ఓ గురువు సాగించిన పోరాటం ఈ చిత్రం. సిరిపురం అనే ఊరిలోని ప్రభుత్వ జూనియర్ కళాశాలకు జూనియర్ లెక్చరర్‌గా వెళ్ళిన కథానాయకుడు.. అక్కడ విద్యార్థులెవరూ కళాశాలకు రాకపోవడంతో వారిని తిరిగి కళాశాలకు వచ్చేలా చేస్తాడు. కుల వ్యవస్థపై పోరాడేందుకు వారిలో చైతన్యం నింపుతాడు. ఈ చిత్రంలో విద్య గొప్పతనాన్ని తెలుపుతూ బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ సాగించిన పోరాటం స్ఫూర్తిదాయకం. అయితే అలాంటి బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ నిజం జీవితంలోనూ ఉన్నారు.

కుమురం భీం జిల్లా కెరమెరి మండలం సావర్ ఖేడలోని ప్రభుత్వ పాఠశాలలో ప్రధానోపాధ్యాయుడిగా పని చేస్తున్నారు కేడర్ల రంగయ్య. ఆయన బాధ్యతలు తీసుకున్నప్పుడు ఆ పాఠశాలలోని విద్యార్థుల సంఖ్య 60 లోపే. కానీ ఆయన కృషి ఆ సంఖ్యను 260 కి చేరేలా చేసింది. తన కూతురిని ప్రభుత్వ పాఠశాలలోనే చేర్పించి.. తన బాటలోనే ఆ గ్రామస్థులు నడిచేలా వారిలో స్ఫూర్తి నింపారు రంగయ్య. తన సొంత డబ్బుతో పాఠశాలను మరమ్మత్తులు చేయించడానికి పూనుకున్న ఆయనను చూసి గ్రామస్థులు ముందుకొచ్చి పాఠశాలకు కొత్త మెరుగులు దిద్దారు. ఉపాధ్యాయుడిగా ఆయన చేసిన కృషికి గాను జాతీయ అవార్డు కూడా అందుకున్నారు రంగయ్య.

కేడర్ల రంగయ్య జీవితం సార్ చిత్రానికి స్ఫూర్తి కాదు. కానీ ఆయన జీవితం కూడా బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ కథ లాగే స్ఫూర్తిదాయంగా ఉంది. అదే కేడర్ల రంగయ్యను  ‘సార్’ చిత్ర దర్శకుడు వెంకీ అట్లూరి స్వయంగా కలిసేలా చేసింది. నిజజీవితంలో తాను చూసిన, విన్న సంఘటనల ఆధారంగా సార్ కథను, బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ పాత్రను తీర్చిదిద్దారు వెంకీ అట్లూరి. అయితే సినిమా విడుదలై అన్ని వర్గాల నుంచి ప్రశంసలు అందుకుంటున్న సమయంలో.. తాను రాసుకున్న బాల గంగాధర్ తిలక్ పాత్రను పోలిన ఉపాధ్యాయుడు నిజంగానే ఉన్నారని తెలిసి వెంకీ అట్లూరి ఆశ్చర్యపోయారు, అంతకుమించి ఆనందపడ్డారు. కేడర్ల రంగయ్య గారిని కలవాలనుకున్నారు. అనుకోవడమే కాదు తాజాగా హైదరాబాద్ లో కలిశారు కూడా.

వెంకీ అట్లూరి, కేడర్ల రంగయ్య ఇద్దరూ కలిసి సార్ చిత్రం గురించి, సావర్ ఖేడ ప్రభుత్వ పాఠశాల గురించి ఎన్నో విషయాలు మాట్లాడుకున్నారు. సార్ సినిమా చూస్తున్నప్పుడు కొన్ని కొన్ని సన్నివేశాల్లో తనని తాను చూసుకున్నట్లు ఉందని కేడర్ల రంగయ్య చెప్పడంతో వెంకీ అట్లూరి ఎంతగానో సంతోషించారు. అలాగే అతి చిన్న వయసులోనే ఉత్తమ ఉపాధ్యాయుడుగా జాతీయ అవార్డు అందుకున్నారని తెలిసి కేడర్ల రంగయ్యను వెంకీ అట్లూరి ప్రత్యేకంగా అభినందించారు. 13 సంవత్సరాల కాలంలో తాను ఎదుర్కొన్న సవాళ్ళను, సాధించిన ఘనతలను గుర్తు చేసుకున్న రంగయ్య.. ఇలాంటి అద్భుత చిత్రాన్ని రూపొందించిన వెంకీ అట్లూరికి కృతజ్ఞతలు తెలిపారు. “గురు బ్రహ్మ గురు విష్ణు గురు దేవో మహేశ్వరహ గురు సాక్షాత్ పరబ్రహ్మ తస్మై శ్రీ గురవే నమః” అనే దానికి ఇలాంటి గురువులను ఉత్తమ ఉదాహరణగా చెప్పుకోవచ్చు. విద్యార్థుల అభ్యున్నతి కోసం తమ జీవితాలను అంకితం చేసే ఇలాంటి గొప్ప ఉపాధ్యాయులకు సార్ మూవీ టీం సెల్యూట్ చేస్తుంది. పేద విద్యార్థుల విద్య కోసం ఎంతగానో కృషి చేస్తున్న కేడర్ల రంగయ్యకు అండగా నిలిచి.. ఇంతటి గొప్ప కార్యంలో తాము కూడా భాగం కావాలన్న ఉద్దేశంతో చిత్ర బృందం తరఫున వారి వంతుగా రు. 3 లక్షలు ఆర్ధిక తోడ్పాటు అందించారు. ఆయన అద్వితీయ ప్రయాణానికి సహకారంగా అందించిన ఈ ఆర్థిక సాయం.. పాఠశాలల్లో లైబ్రరీల నిర్మాణానికి, విద్యార్థులకు వారి విద్య, వ్యక్తిగత మరియు వృత్తిపరమైన విజయానికి కీలకమైన పుస్తకాలు మరియు విద్యా వనరులను అందించడానికి దోహదపడుతుంది.

కోలీవుడ్ స్టార్ ధనుష్, సంయుక్త మీనన్ జంటగా వెంకీ అట్లూరి దర్శకత్వంలో తెలుగు, తమిళ భాషల్లో రూపొందిన ద్విభాషా చిత్రం సార్(వాతి). ప్రముఖ నిర్మాణ సంస్థ సితార ఎంటర్‌టైన్‌మెంట్స్, ఫార్చ్యూన్ ఫోర్ సినిమాస్ మరియు శ్రీకర స్టూడియోస్ సంయుక్తంగా నిర్మించాయి. హ్యాడ్సమ్ హీరో సుమంత్ అతిథి పాత్రలో నటించిన ఈ చిత్రంలో సముద్రఖని, సాయి కుమార్, తనికెళ్ళ భరణి, హైపర్ ఆది తదితరులు ఇతర ముఖ్య పాత్రలు పోషించారు. జి.వి. ప్రకాష్ కుమార్ సంగీతం సమకూర్చారు. ఫిబ్రవరి 17న విడుదలైన ఈ చిత్రం తెలుగు, తమిళ ప్రేక్షకులను విశేషంగా ఆకట్టుకుంటూ భారీ వసూళ్లతో మరింతగా దూసుకుపోతోంది.

Vaathi/ Sir Team honours and celebrates real-life Sir/ Vaathi K. Rangaiah

Vaathi/ Sir team tells the story of a young lecturer, played by Dhanush. He goes to a Government School in a rural area and gives a facelift to the education system. He brings students to schools and raises awareness among them to fight the caste system, and celebrate equality through education. He triumphs past many hurdles, thanks to his willpower and the determination of the students. Recently, the team honoured a similar and equally inspiring government school teacher, K. Rangaiah, who won President Award, for his services.

Director Venky Atluri met K Rangaiah and conversed about the film and his life. Being the youngest teacher to receive the President Award for his efforts, he has been instrumental in bringing back students to schools in his village, Savarkhed. When the school headmaster at his village changed after he joined work, he decided to take up the responsibility of bringing back students to schools and ran campaigns against persisting problems in the region.

He stated that after looking at the film, he identified himself with it. He was reportedly reminded of the many struggles he had to face over 13 years, to achieve what he did today. He thanked Venky Atluri for making such a fantastic film and said that many scenes from Sir/Vaathi are like his biography. Sir/ Vaathi team salutes many such teachers who dedicate their lives to the upliftment of students and treat them like their God.

The hymn “Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheswaraha, Guru Sakashath Parabrahma Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha!” couldn’t have been more apt. In a bid to recognise Rangaiah’s efforts and to establish a library, the leading production house Sithara Entertainments has donated to him a sum of Rs 3 lakhs. This funding will go towards the construction of libraries in schools, providing students with access to books and educational resources, crucial for their academic, personal, and professional success.
