కింగ్‌డమ్ సినిమాకి ప్రేక్షకుల నుంచి వస్తున్న స్పందన చూస్తుంటే ఏమనిపిస్తుంది?
చాలా చాలా సంతోషంగా ఉంది. కేవలం తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాలలో మాత్రమే కాకుండా.. ఇతర రాష్ట్రాలలో, ఓవర్సీస్ లో విశేష స్పందన లభిస్తుంది. ముఖ్యంగా మలయాళంలో ఈ స్థాయి స్పందన ఊహించలేదు. మలయాళ వెర్షన్ విడుదల చేయకపోయినా.. అక్కడి ప్రేక్షకులు ఇంతటి ప్రేమ చూపించడం చాలా ఆనందంగా ఉంది.

ఇంతటి విజయం దక్కడంపై మీ స్పందన ఏంటి?
కెరీర్ ప్రారంభంలో సినిమా హిట్ అయితే సెలెబ్రేట్ చేసుకోవాలనే ఆలోచన ఉండదు. ఎందుకంటే ఒక సినిమా హిట్ అయితే ఇంకో సినిమా చేసే అవకాశం వస్తుందని ఆశ ఉంటుంది. పెళ్లి చూపులు హిట్ అయినప్పుడు.. ఇంకొన్ని అవకాశాలు వస్తాయని ఆనందపడ్డాను. కానీ, ఇప్పుడు అలా కాదు. సినిమా హిట్ అయితే ఆనందం కంటే కూడా మరిన్ని మంచి సినిమాలు చేయాలనే బాధ్యత ఎక్కువగా ఉంటుంది. ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ సినిమా విడుదలకు ముందు ఎంతో కొంత ఒత్తిడి ఉంటుంది. కింగ్‌డమ్ విడుదలకు ముందు మాక్కూడా ఆలాంటి ఒత్తిడి ఉంది. ఎప్పుడైతే మొదటి షో పూర్తయ్యి, పాజిటివ్ వచ్చిందో.. అప్పుడు చాలా సంతోషం కలిగింది.

దర్శకుడు గౌతమ్ తిన్ననూరి గురించి?
గౌతమ్ కుటుంబ బంధాలను, ఎమోషన్స్ ని డీల్ చేసే విధానం నాకు ఇష్టం. అన్నదమ్ముల అనుబంధం నేపథ్యంలో గ్యాంగ్ స్టర్ డ్రామా అనే ఐడియా గౌతమ్ చెప్పినప్పుడు నాకు చాలా ఆసక్తికరంగా అనిపించింది. జెర్సీ లాంటి ఎమోషనల్ జర్నీలో కూడా మనకు హై ఇచ్చే మూమెంట్స్ ఉంటాయి. గౌతమ్ కి ప్రతి విషయం మీద పట్టు ఉంటుంది. హీరో పాత్ర, షాట్ కంపోజిషన్, మ్యూజిక్ ఇలా ప్రతిదాని మీద ఎంతో శ్రద్ధ తీసుకుంటాడు. కింగ్‌డమ్ కోసం ఆసక్తికర కథనం రాశాడు. ఇందులో ఏదో యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశం పెట్టాలి కదా అన్నట్టుగా ఎక్కడా పెట్టలేదు. దాని చుట్టూ బలమైన ఎమోషన్ ఉండేలా చూసుకున్నాడు.

రెండవ భాగం ఎలా ఉండబోతుంది?
ఈ కథలో చాలా లేయర్స్ ఉన్నాయి. అన్నదమ్ముల అనుబంధం నేపథ్యంలో ప్రధానంగా కథ ఉంటుంది. కానీ, ఇందులో దేశభక్తికి సంబంధించిన అంశముంది. అలాగే, ఒక తెగకు చెందిన నాయకుడి గురించి ఉంటుంది. ఇలా ఇన్ని అంశాలను ఒకే భాగంలో చెప్పడం సాధ్యంకాదు. అందుకే రెండు భాగాలుగా చెప్పాలని నిర్ణయించుకున్నాము. తన అన్నయ్య శివ కోసం సూరి చేసిన ప్రయాణాన్ని మొదటి భాగంలో చూశాం. రెండవ భాగానికి సంబంధించి గౌతమ్ దగ్గర గొప్ప గొప్ప ఆలోచనలు ఉన్నాయి. మొదటి భాగంతో పోలిస్తే రెండవ భాగంగా ఇంకా అద్భుతంగా ఉండబోతుంది.

ఈ సినిమాలో ఆయుధాలతో ఓటింగ్ వేసే సన్నివేశాలకు మంచి స్పందన వస్తోంది. ఆ సీన్స్ చెప్పినప్పుడు మీ రియాక్షన్ ఏంటి?
గౌతమ్ కథ చెప్పినప్పుడు ఓటింగ్ వేసే సన్నివేశాల గురించి చెప్పాడు కానీ, ఆ ప్రాసెస్ ఎలా ఉంటుందో చెప్పలేదు. ఆ తర్వాత ఇలా గన్ లు, కత్తుల వంటి ఆయుధాలతో ఓటింగ్ ఉంటుంది చెప్పినప్పుడు కొత్తగా అనిపించింది. ఆ కొత్తదనమే ప్రేక్షకుల మెప్పు పొందడానికి కారణమైంది అనిపిస్తుంది.

కింగ్‌డమ్ కోసం మీరు ఎలాంటి హోం వర్క్ చేశారు?
ఈ కథ విన్న తర్వాత అసలు ఆ కాలంలో ఎలా మాట్లాడేవారు, ఎలాంటి దుస్తులు వేసుకునేవారు వంటి విషయాలు తెలుసుకోవడం మొదలుపెట్టాను. రిఫరెన్స్ కోసం పలు వెబ్ సిరీస్ లు చూశాను. అలాగే లుక్ పరంగానూ మరింత దృఢంగా కనిపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాను. ఒక నటుడిగా ఎప్పుడూ ఫిట్ గా ఉండటానికి ఇష్టపడతాను. అయితే ఇందులో అన్నయ్యని తిరిగి తీసుకురావడం కోసం ఆ సామ్రాజ్యంలోకి అడుగుపెట్టే సమయంలో బల్క్ గా కనిపించాలనే ఉద్దేశంతో దాదాపు ఆరు నెలలు ప్రత్యేక కసరత్తులు చేశాను.

ఈ సినిమాకి మీకు వచ్చిన బెస్ట్ కాంప్లిమెంట్ ఏంటి?
ప్రేక్షకులు, అభిమానులు ఈ సినిమాపై కురిపిస్తున్న ప్రేమనే నా దృష్టిలో బెస్ట్ కాంప్లిమెంట్. వాళ్ళకి సినిమా నచ్చడం ఎక్కువ సంతృప్తిని ఇస్తుంది. చాలా రోజుల తరువాత అభిమానుల కళ్ళల్లో ఆనందాన్ని చూశాను. మొదటి షో పూర్తవ్వగానే చాలామంది ఫోన్లు చేసి ‘మనం హిట్ కొట్టినం’ అని చెప్తుంటే మాటల్లో చెప్పలేనంత ఆనందం కలిగింది.

ఈ చిత్రంలో మీరు షిప్ ను లాగే సీన్ జెర్సీ మూమెంట్ లాంటిదని చెప్పవచ్చు. ఆ షూటింగ్ సమయంలో మీ ఫీలింగ్ ఏంటి?
మే నెలలో మండుటెండలో ఆ సీన్ షూట్ చేశాము. చిత్రీకరణ సమయంలో ఓ మంచి సన్నివేశం చేస్తున్నామన్న సంతృప్తితో చేశాము తప్ప.. జెర్సీ మూమెంట్ అనే ఆలోచనతో చేయలేదు. ఇప్పుడు ప్రేక్షకులు ఆ సీన్ గురించి గొప్పగా మాట్లాడటం చాలా సంతోషాన్ని ఉంది.

సినీ పరిశ్రమ నుంచి ఎలాంటి ప్రశంసలు వచ్చాయి?
సినిమా చూసి సుకుమార్ గారు ఫోన్ చేశారు. సినిమా తనకు ఎంతగానో నచ్చిందని చెప్పారు. నాకు సుకుమార్ గారంటే ఎంతో ఇష్టం. ఆయన నుంచి ప్రశంస రావడం ఎంతో ఆనందాన్ని ఇచ్చింది.

సుకుమార్ గారితో మీ సినిమా ఎప్పుడు?
అర్జున్ రెడ్డి సమయం నుంచే నేను, సుకుమార్ గారు కలిసి సినిమా చేయాలి అనుకుంటున్నాం. ఆయనకు కూడా నేనంటే ఇష్టం. భవిష్యత్ లో మా కలయికలో సినిమా వస్తుందని ఆశిస్తున్నాను. ప్రస్తుతం అయితే నా దృష్టి అంతా నా చేతిలో ఉన్న సినిమాలపైనే ఉంది.

కింగ్‌డమ్ విజయం మీ తదుపరి సినిమాలపై ఎలాంటి ప్రభావాన్ని చూపబోతుంది?
ఏ సినిమా చేసినా ప్రేక్షకులకు ఓ మంచి సినిమా ఇవ్వాలనే లక్ష్యంతోనే చేస్తాను. తదుపరి సినిమాని రాహుల్ సాంకృత్యాయన్ దర్శకత్వంలో చేస్తున్నాను. నా సినీ జీవితంలో మొదటిసారి రాయలసీమ నేపథ్యంలో చేస్తున్న చిత్రమిది. నాకు సీమ యాస అంటే చాలా ఇష్టం. అనంతరం రవికిరణ్ కోలా దర్శకత్వంలో ఓ సినిమా చేయనున్నాను. ఆంధ్రా నేపథ్యంలో సరికొత్త కథతో ఆ చిత్రం ఉంటుంది. రాహుల్, రవి ఇద్దరూ ఎంతో ప్రతిభగల దర్శకులు. ఇద్దరూ అద్భుతమైన కథలను సిద్ధం చేశారు.

 A Film That Brought Happiness to audience ’ Eyes – Vijay Deverakonda on Kingdom

The film Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, is winning the hearts of audiences across all sections and raking in massive box office collections. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film also features Satyadev, Bhagyashri Borse, and Venkatesh in key roles. It is produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, with Srikara Studios presenting it. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Released on July 31st amid huge expectations, Kingdom has been receiving appreciation from critics and audiences alike. With a unique gangster drama backdrop intertwined with the bond between two brothers, the film is being hailed as a visually stunning and emotionally engaging cinematic experience.

Following the overwhelming response, Vijay Deverakonda recently interacted with the media and shared several interesting insights.

How do you feel about the response Kingdom has been receiving?
I feel extremely happy. It’s not just in the Telugu states – the film is getting tremendous response in other states and overseas as well. The response from Kerala has been particularly surprising, considering we didn’t even release a Malayalam version. The love shown by audiences there has been heartwarming.

What are your thoughts on this huge success?
Early in my career, when a film became a hit, I never really thought about celebrating. The thought back then was, “If a film does well, I’ll get more opportunities.” When Pelli Choopulu became a success, I was happy about the opportunities that would follow.

But now, it’s different. When a film becomes a hit, more than happiness, I feel a greater sense of responsibility to make even better films. Before every release, there’s always pressure. We also felt that pressure before Kingdom released. The moment the first show ended and positive reports came in, I felt immense relief and joy.

Your thoughts on director Gowtam Tinnanuri?
I really admire Gowtam’s ability to deal with family bonds and emotions. When he told me the idea of making a gangster drama with a strong brotherly bond at its core, I found it very interesting.

Even in films like Jersey, there are moments that give you a high despite being emotional journeys. Gowtam has a strong grip on every aspect of filmmaking – from the hero’s characterization to shot composition and music.

He wrote a fascinating narrative for Kingdom. There isn’t a single action sequence just for the sake of it – every fight is driven by emotion and meaning.

What can we expect from the sequel?
This story has multiple layers. While the bond between the brothers is central, it also touches upon patriotism and the journey of a tribal leader.

It wasn’t possible to explore all these aspects in a single part, so we decided to tell it in two parts. In the first part, we saw Suri’s journey to bring back his brother Shiva. Gowtam has some brilliant ideas for the second part, which I can confidently say will be even bigger and better than the first.

The scenes where voting happens using weapons received a great response. What was your reaction when you first heard about them?
When Gowtam first narrated the story, he mentioned the voting sequence but didn’t explain the process. Later, when he told me it would involve guns, swords, and other weapons, it felt completely new. I think that uniqueness is one of the main reasons audiences loved those scenes so much.

What kind of preparation did you do for this role?
After listening to the story, I began researching how people of that era spoke and dressed. I watched several web series for references.

I also worked on my physical transformation to look more solid and rugged. I’ve always preferred staying fit as an actor. But for Kingdom, especially for the sequences where Suri steps into the empire to bring his brother back, I wanted to look bulkier and stronger. So I trained rigorously for about six months.

What is the best compliment you received for this film?
For me, the love and affection from audiences and fans is the best compliment. Seeing them connect with the film gives me immense satisfaction.

After the first show, I received several calls where people emotionally said, “Anna, we’ve scored a hit!” That feeling is indescribable.

The ship-pulling scene is being called the ‘Jersey moment’ of this film. How did you feel while shooting it?
We shot that scene in the scorching heat of May. At that time, we were just focused on making it the best scene possible. We didn’t think of it as a “Jersey moment.” Now, seeing audiences talk so highly about it feels amazing.

What kind of compliments have you received from the industry?
Sukumar garu called me after watching the film and told me how much he loved it. I’m a huge admirer of his work, so getting appreciation from him meant a lot to me.

When will your film with Sukumar happen?
Since the time of Arjun Reddy, we’ve been planning to collaborate. Sukumar garu also likes me as an actor. Hopefully, our film will happen in the future. For now, my focus is on the projects currently in hand.

How will Kingdom’s success impact your upcoming films?
Whatever film I do, my only goal is to deliver a good film for the audience.

My next film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan, and for the first time in my career, it will be set in the Rayalaseema backdrop. I love the Seema dialect.

After that, I will be working on a film with Ravi Kiran Kola, which will be based on a unique story set in Andhra Pradesh. Both Rahul and Ravi are extremely talented directors with fantastic scripts.
